Read Unproduced Scripts and Screenplays
Look through some of the best unproduced scripts written by new and emerging screenwriters!
If you're looking for screenplays that you've maybe never heard of, then you're in the right place!
Inside you'll find what script readers have read and reviewed over the years. You may recognize some of the titles.
But, before we get to the goods let's focus on why it's important for screenwriters to have samples of their work available for public consumption.
Here's What We Have For You
What's in a name?
Some of the scripts you'll find here were written by new screenwriters, most of whom had jobs outside of the film industry.
Legend has it that each screenplay was read and reviewed by more than one paid script reader, rated, and then ranked. At the end of a particular year, scripts that had the highest ratings -- votes -- made a pseudo "best of" list. Some of those screenplays became movies, but many are still waiting for their moment in the spotlight.
It should be noted that most (but not all) of the screenplays in this section were not specifically given to 8FLiX to publish. They are individually available for free download elsewhere; we've simply sourced them and made them available for our visitors and readers. Some writers have chosen to keep their unproduced script here at 8FLiX.com and update it from time to time. On the flip side, and just as important, others have requested that we remove their script from the database. If you're a writer, contact us and let us know if you fall into one of these categories. We're here to help, no questions asked.
Also, if you're not an industry worker, and you've just stumbled upon this page looking for a specific movie script, then you're probably looking for the other screenplays section.
So You Want To Be A Screenwriter?
You've got a lot of work to do.
Be prepared to hear what you may not want to hear, like "You're never going to be a writer." For some people that is fact. Use that advice as a motivator to get better, or to reevaluate your career choices. Though it is possible to make a living wage out of writing, it's a long and bumpy road.
You'll be rejected more often than not, laughed at, publicly humiliated, insulted, ignored. You'll go through more than one agent, more than one manager. Don't take it personally. "This isn't show friends. It's show business." (Bob Sugar in "Jerry Maguire", written by Cameron Crowe)
Some of the best advice you're going to get will come from people you don't know. It will be brutally honest and blunt. Those people will have no vested interest in you, your life, or your work. And it should be advice you didn't pay for.
You need to self-promote; get your script out there for people to read. Use social media: Reddit, Facebook... there are plenty of free options available, including 8FLiX. Get feedback and advice from other writers who choose to read your script because they want to, not because they're being paid to.
Do You Have What It Takes?
Paying for access to Hollywood gatekeepers? Read the fine print.
First, we should note that 8FLiX Institution is not affiliated with any studio or service. We're a registered non-profit and we're here to help... like, actually help young screenwriters. Our service is free of charge, and it will always be that way.
The days of paying for a seemingly vetted (but completely anonymous) script reader are coming to an end. Ironically, it's the naiveté of new screenwriters we have to thank for the end of this ridiculous practice. To steal a line from the "Oppenheimer" screenplay, "You gave them the power to destroy themselves."
Warnings over having your idea stolen because your screenplay is free on the internet are at best sus, and at worst a dubious sales tactic.
The truth is, studios have their own in-house readers... professional script readers who can see beyond a marketable logline. Paying to access the mythological "Gatekeepers of Hollywood" is nothing more than a road to personal bankruptcy. Warnings over having your "idea stolen" because your screenplay is not locked behind an exclusive paywall sound ominous, that much is true. But it only sounds that way.
Yes, there are likely bad actors (pun completely intentional) out there who could use your idea and run away with it earning untold riches and dozens of Academy Awards. The odds are long, so why not play? (thank you, Barenaked Ladies!) The chances of your becoming another Winklevoss v. Zuckerberg are about the same as getting hit by lightning while drinking a martini and sitting naked in front of your computer.
You need to self-promote; get your script out there for people to read. Use social media: Reddit, Facebook... there are plenty of free options available. Do your research. There are a number of success stories coming from writers who've never used pay-for-read services. Script Revolution and Stage 32 are the two most popular and reputable companies that can connect writers to producers... and it's FREE.
The Unexplained: Explained
How reading unproduced screenplays can help writers.
If you don't have time to read, you don't have time (or the tools) to write. Stephen King
Ask any screenwriter and they'll tell you that reading screenplays is an important part of one's on-going education. Also, it's one of the most inexpensive teaching tools you'll find.
There's more to know:
Like we said earlier, some of the screenplays you'll find within "The Unproduced" section of 8FLiX will have recognizable titles. Most, however, you'll likely never see made into a movie. But there is one thing that they all have in common: their writers weren't always writers.
Just One More Thing
Word of mouth advertising is still free.
If you're a writer featured here, we're more than happy to host your scripts and bio free of charge, always. There is no trickery or wordplay. There is no "exclusive access" which requires payment. There is no fine print to refer to. There are no egomaniacal gatekeepers running the show, collecting your money and playing off your dreams of becoming a Hollywood screenwriting legend.
If someone reads your script found here, it's because they want to... not because they're being paid to.
To update your scripts, or to remove them from the database, please reach out to Nick Runyeard. No paperwork, no BS. You'll find a friendly, retired television writer on the other end who's more than willing to help you however he can. And it won't cost you a thing.
Okay, NOW just one more thing...
According to our own data, in 2023 more than 75% of 8FLiX.com American traffic (to this section of the site) came from three major US film and television production hubs: California (Los Angeles), New Mexico (ABQ/Sante Fe), and Georgia (Atlanta).
Admittedly, the data didn't tell us anything more than just that. We've reached the limits of what information we're allowed to collect from visitors to 8FLiX.
So, basically, inference (and personal experience) plays a huge role in analytics. And the data suggests, more likely than not, American-based film and television workers and wannabes are downloading and reading scripts hosted on 8FLiX.com. Also, who do you know that is not an industry worker who reads screenplays they've never heard of?
Why does that matter? We've said it before, but it's worth repeating: If someone reads your script found here, it's because they want to... not because they're being paid to.
