Screenplays Considered: ‘Foreign’
One of the many subgenres.
Neither a ‘mood’ nor a ‘tone,’ these scripts have a specific style of filmmaking that relates to a ‘Primary Genre.’ Also, the original language may not always be English.
Scripts under the ‘Foreign’ subgenre are from movies and TV produced primarily for audiences outside of the USA and Canada.
Das Boot (1981), Roma (2018), and the Netflix TV series ‘Young Royals’ are excellent examples of ‘Foreign’ scripts (which may or may not include English versions). The series ‘Sex Education,’ also on Netflix, is considered ‘Foreign’ because it is produced entirely in Britain and is cast with mainly British nationals.
