Like all creative fields, screenwriting is subjective. You could pay a professional reader for feedback, only to get completely opposing opinions from different people. One might tear your script apart, while another could love every word. The problem? Not all feedback focuses on the essentials of good storytelling.
That’s the challenge with seeking advice—not all of it is helpful, and not all script readers truly understand what makes a screenplay work. The best thing you can do? Keep writing. Keep refining. The most important opinion is yours. If you have the skill and determination, success will come with time.
Also, read screenplays—tons of them. Study unproduced scripts, industry favorites, and award-winners. Pay attention to what’s not written, the subtext, and how the story unfolds beyond the dialogue. That’s where real mastery comes in.
You’ll make mistakes—that’s inevitable. The key is knowing when to push forward and when to move on.
