So, let's begin your discovery. Welcome to 8FLiX.

What We Mean By "Screenplay"

Call it whatever you want, but it is what it is.

Before there were movies, there were plays. Live theatre performances entertained the masses for centuries. So, yeah, a "screenplay" is a play written for the screen. In this case, a movie screen you'd find at the cinemas (or even your own home!). Screenwriters compose these modern plays for film, and even videogame productions.

Its principal format and layout are universally understood by industry performers and workers at all levels. And it is this very unique style that separates screenplays from novels.

Inside a Screenplay

You've read books and novels, right? Well, these aren't them.

If you've never read a screenplay before, its appearance may seem a little jarring at first.

Unlike novels, the dialogue in a screenplay is written mainly for performers. Similarly, the "action" blocks serve as a "guide" to help the cast (and crew) visualize a scene. Depending on the screenwriter, "action" blocks may be extremely detailed or brief and to the point.

Inside 8FLiX, you'll find screenplays written by diverse screenwriters, each bringing their own style while fitting within a recognizable format that has stood the test of time.
