Thinking About Writing Screenplays? Here’s What You Should Know.
So, you want to write movies? That’s awesome—but be warned: making it as a screenwriter is tough. Anyone can put words on a page, but not everyone has what it takes to be a writer.
Like all art, screenwriting is subjective. That means feedback will be, too. You could pay a script consultant for their opinion, and they might tear your screenplay to shreds. Another might read the same script and love every word. In the end, you’ll get conflicting advice—some helpful, some completely missing the mark on what actually matters in storytelling.
That’s the frustrating thing about feedback—not all of it is valuable, and not everyone giving it knows what they’re talking about. The best thing you can do? Keep writing. Keep revising. At the end of the day, your voice and instincts matter most. If you’ve got the drive to be a great writer, things will fall into place.
Also, read scripts. Lots of them. Study unproduced drafts, critically acclaimed works, and everything in between. Look beyond the words to see what’s really happening on the page. Pay attention to pacing, subtext, and structure.
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes—but also know when to move on.
Writing is easy. Becoming a writer takes dedication. The difference? Persistence.
A word about voting... and other important stuff about the "best of" 2024 Unproduced Scripts.
Some of the scripts listed here may have since been optioned and produced. However, at the time of "voting" they were not.
Also, like all of the screenplays on this site, copyrights remain with the writer(s). 8FLiX does not claim ownership of any screenplay, nor were we involved in voting for, or choosing what makes them the "best of" a particular year.
