Want to Write Screenplays? Here’s the Reality.
Thinking about writing movies? That’s great—but let’s be honest, breaking into screenwriting is no easy task. Anyone can write, but not everyone can turn it into a career.
Screenwriting, like any art, is highly subjective. So, is it worth paying for someone’s opinion? One script reader might dismiss your work entirely, while another could think it’s brilliant. The result? Conflicting feedback that may not even address the core principles of storytelling.
That’s the tricky part about feedback—just because someone gives an opinion doesn’t mean it’s useful. Not all script readers are created equal. The most important thing? Keep writing. Keep refining your work until you are satisfied. If you have the skills and determination, everything else will follow.
Also, read screenplays. Read as many as possible—unfinished drafts, industry favorites, award-winners. Study what’s on the page, but more importantly, learn to see what’s between the lines. Pay attention to structure, pacing, and subtext.
Mistakes will happen. That’s part of the process. The key is knowing when to push forward and when to let go.
Anyone can put words on a page. But to be a true writer? That takes persistence.
A word about voting... and other important stuff about the "best of" 2024 Unproduced Scripts.
Some of the scripts listed here may have since been optioned and produced. However, at the time of "voting" they were not.
Also, like all of the screenplays on this site, copyrights remain with the writer(s). 8FLiX does not claim ownership of any screenplay, nor were we involved in voting for, or choosing what makes them the "best of" a particular year.
If you're the writer and wish to update the version, change your contact information, or to remove your screenplay from the database, send me an email.
